Thursday Night NIGHTMARE....

Usually on Thursdays we go out to dinner. As we were having a great dinner at Johnny's Tacos I looked in my purse to get out my wallet for yet a few more quarters for the video games and basketball game, I noticed I had 8 missed calls. When I see that it always scares me, and I think the worse. I looked at the missed calls and they were from my Mom and my Brother. OH GREAT!!!! I called my Moms cell and the first thing I asked was if something was wrong. She said yes and her phone started to break up, I lost her. It was the longest 7 minutes of my life.

Thursday night Ashleigh had batting practice. Asheigh is an awesome hitter just like her Mom. Ashleigh hit a ball way over the outfield fense, so Robert got his bicyle helmet on and rode his bike out to get the ball. As he was bending over to get the ball Ashleigh had hit another and it hit him on the right side of the head. Needless to say the nighmare started. Robert was rushed to emergency and they did a cat scan immediately. He had to skull fractures. The goodthing is that he was conscious the whole time, the bad thing was the feeling was coming and going on the right side of his body. Once he was stabilized, the Hospital was calling around to all the Hospitals in California to fina a trauma unit with an open bed. They ended up transporting him to Kaiser Hollywood by Ambulance. They were worried because of the bleeding on the brain, and the skull was so close to the brain. The plan was that they were going to have to do brain surgery when he arrived out there. OMG! There was a Neurologist and the Head of Peds was waiting for his arrival. They check Robert out fully and re-looked at the Cat scan, luckily there was no puncture to the brain, it was still smooth. They were worried about the bleeding so they did another cat scan in the morning. Luckily the bleeding was due to the impact and had slowed down. They put Robert on seizure medication because of the trauma to the brain and gave him tylenol to take the edge off. They also were giving him antibiotics thru the IV. The bad thing was is Roberts head is really hurting him and they could do nothing to relieve the pressure (needle inserted into head to release pressure and fluid)because the brain was exposed due to the two fractures.

Robert was released late on Saturday night to go home. He has to continue taking the seizure medicine for at least a month if not six months. He definitely has vertigo (dizziness and equalibrium off) has a hard time walking without stumbling. We went out to my Moms to see him and he is definitely not himself. My heart breaks for him. Thank goodness GOD was watching over him because it came close to the temple. You know what would of happened then. He cannot ride a bike, scooter, play any outside games, balls, or ride in the car unless it is completely necessary etc for at least six months. Can you imagine a six year old and let alone Robert staying that still? WOW!!! He goes back to the Doctor on Monday and they will re-evaluate having the surgery and returns in a month for another Cat Scan down in Hollywood. The Doctor will then re-evaluate him to see about swimming, and riding on the riding on the boat and car.

He is out of school for a week and depending on how Monday goes possible out for Home school for a month. He cannot chance hitting his head, plus the seizure medication makes him very drowsy.

Oh my gosh Stacy...Give my best to your family. That is such a scary situation and my heart goes out to Robert. How is your sister-in-law doing? You posted that she is pregnant and I am sure this has put a huge strain on her. Once again, give your family my best. Jess
